You Might Want to Swing By… Just Saying: Vision Therapy Activities

There’s something about walking into the exhibit hall at OVDRA that just feels different. Maybe it’s the energy, the conversations picking up right where they left off last year, or it’s the setting, which this year will be right there at the Galt House Hotel, overlooking the Ohio River, where everything feels just a little more alive.
You’ll walk in expecting the usual booths, demos, conversations, maybe a few familiar faces you haven’t seen in a while, and that’s all there. But this year, there’s something else mixed into the rhythm of the room. You might hear a conversation that sounds a little more clinical than commercial. A little more “why” than “what.” Something that makes you slow down for a second and think, wait…I want to hear this. That’s where you’ll find us.
This year, James Smith, COVT, and I are setting up in the exhibit hall and doing a series of mini lectures throughout the day, not long sessions or formal presentations. Just short, focused conversations centered around real vision therapy activities.
We’re taking the things you already use, or have seen a hundred times, and breaking them down in a way that reflects what happens in the room: why you choose one activity over another, what you’re really looking for while it’s happening, and what to do when it’s not going the way you expected.
Because let’s be honest… that’s where the real work is! It’s in the subtle stuff. In the moment a patient hesitates, and in the way they shift their posture. The second, when you realize they’re either locking something in or quietly avoiding it, those are the details that change outcomes, and they don’t always make it into a slide deck. That’s what these mini sessions are about. Pulling back the curtain on the clinical thinking that sits underneath the activity. The part we all do… but don’t always get to talk through out loud.
And the best part? You don’t have to commit to anything. Stop by Emergent’s booth and join in for five minutes. Stay for twenty, ask a question, share what you’re seeing in your own office, or just stand there, listen, and take one idea with you that you try the next week. If you leave with something you can use on Monday, we’ve done our job.
So as you’re moving through the exhibit hall at the Galt House, if you hear a small crowd, a good question, or someone saying, “wait… do that again” there’s a pretty good chance you’ve found us.
We hope to see you there!
